16 July is the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. "Wear on your breast the holy scapular of Carmel," Saint Josemaria said. "Besides, how maternal the sabbatine privilege is!"

Blessed Guadalupe Ortiz de Landázuri passed away fifty years ago, on 16 July 1975. On the anniversary of her death, we remember her life, which was full of adventure and service to others. Guadalupe was a woman who allowed herself to be surprised by God and responded with a joyful vocation, reflecting the greatness of God’s love.

We all need companions whose close conversation and encouragement help us navigate life, in service of “the ever-original action of the Holy Spirit” in our souls. This is the 15th installment in the “Combat, closeness, mission” series.
